[ It really shouldn't have made sense, but here he was... Snake had decided once more to practice his sneaking capabilities while in Johto. Having been driven to Olivine had helped greatly... It felt good to not be walking back between Goldenrod and Violet. Now he was in a new place, sneaking about quietly, finding good uses for his Octo Camo.

Sneaking along with him was his newest partner, a Kecleon. The chameleon Pokemon had been left to him by someone... Someone who'd left Johto unannounced. Considering the kind of Pokemon it was (with its camouflage capabilities), the old soldier knew quite well whose it was.

And because of that, he vowed to take good care of his former mentor's Pokemon. Now he was approaching the Ranch, though sticking to the bushes to try and get the upper hand on any wild Pokemon. ]

MmmmMOOOOOOO.

[Snake froze. That sound. He immediately pulled out his Gear, contacting Otacon.] Otacon-- There's a Gekko here. [Not wanting to be caught by the beast, Snake rolled further into the brush, wanting to avoid being caught by its infrared sensors. He couldn't hear the familiar stomping sounds that accompanied it-- Kecleon hurried along with Snake, crawling alongside him and looking perplexed. Why did Old Snake look so worried suddenly?

Snake could hear another moo-- this one was closer... It was behind him! Turning to try and shake the creature off, the old soldier found himself with a face full of Milktank tongue.]

Ar-gghrh!

Mmmooo.

[ For all intents and purposes, Xion had just been passing by. Relatively normal, that, as she still wanted to explore the city, and the ranch was one of the bigger parts she'd yet to inspect for anything interesting.

This spectacle provides it.

Walking closer to the fence, Xion peers a little closer. ] Um... are you all right?

[Snake looks up (upside-down) at Xion and blinks. He suddenly feels pretty embarrassed, wiping his face.]

Y-yeah, I'm fine, don't worry about it... [maaaaaaan...]

Are you sure? [ Xion looks between the old man and the Miltank. Looks like the Miltank wins this round. ]

Yeah, I just... got a little startled...

Were you trying to sneak around them?

Yeah... Something like that. [Rubs his head. Kecleon climbs up the fence and reveals itself, getting out of camouflage.] Oh... right, this is Kecleon. I'm training him on his stealth.

[ She turns her head to wave and greet the Kecleon. ] Hi, Kecleon. [ When she further stares at the pokemon, she can't help but remember a certain Heartless that looked like this one... only bigger and more volatile. Her small smile cracks a little a that. ]

[Snake's been watching people long enough to know when something upsets them. He tilts his head somewhat, sitting up.]

What is it? Don't like lizards?

Something like that. A little bad experience. [ A pause. J-Just staring at that Kecleon. ] This one's okay.

[Kecleon tilts his head before slurping his tongue in and out. Snake frowns.] You wanna talk about it?

[ She quickly shakes her head. She doubt most would believe her say, "oh, I hunted and was hunted down by a giant lizard. Like really giant. ]

It's fine, really. [ Pauses. Think! Another subject. ] ... You mentioned something about a "Gekko" before?

[Snake looks a little embarrassed, but he turns his head away a bit.] Uh, yeah... They're actually called Irving, but both names work... [He thinks a moment.] In my world-- [That still feels strange to say.]--Gekko are large bipedal tanks that resemble half machine, half animal. Their legs are made out of a synthetic tissue-- they even bleed when cut. You always know when a Gekko is near because it...

... It moos.

[ His description sets her imagination off: a randomly placed animal on top of a large tank. With legs. W-Whoa. And it moos? Now she's picturing a Miltank somewhere in there. ]

And they're dangerous? [ Judging by Snake's actions and words. ]

[No, that's not a snicker you're hearing.]

Not lizards. I'm not really sure what they used... But they don't look like any animal I've ever seen.

It's a codename. They're pretty good at bending their legs around to climb, though.
